OK Probally in the wrong section but,
I asked this question this morning and got a couple of replies.
I know quite a lot about PCs and was wondering how hard it is to start your own PC repair business?
Has anyone on here down if so was it hard?
What are the pitfalls?
What should i charge?
What kind of advertising?
Any help gladly taken

I’m not intending on sounding nasty here, but what worries me is how little information you’ve given me here – and consequently, how much thought has gone into your venture.
Firstly, have you decided on whether you want premises or not? Many PC repair shops don’t last very long including inner city ones. Mainly because a lot of people know how to repair the most common problems, and if a major component goes it’s down to Dell for a £300 PC.
It’s something I would recommend doing from home. Maybe set up an eBay shop, sell new and second hand PC’s – hand out some fliers making notes that you’re willing to buy old PCS and offer discounts on new. Flag up your repair idea at that time, and you’re offering a complete service.
Older people are computer-phobic. Offer a one to one tuition course for £25 or so an hour, and really get into the idea. Offer installation, media centre design etc along with your packages.
Charge an hourly repair rate plus costs, but never forget that companies like Dell are offering computers for dirt cheap – and an even more worrying concept is companies like AOL now offering a free laptop when you buy their broadband.
Start small with fliers and a small ad in the Yellow Pages. If you’re good, you should get work. You’ll need to have a professional appearance, professional business stationary etc and more importantly do a great job with all the extras mentioned. Good Luck!
